doll talk!
Aug. 14th, 2012 09:40 pmWhoooo! Because I don't think I want to spam plurk with my senseless ramblings, you will now all witness how crazy I can get when I don't look at the keyboard and just type away my thoughts.
Anyway! Here's tonight's topic: ball jointed dolls.
I've always wanted one, right? Ever since, what? High school? My bff Creole introduced me to bjds, iirc, and I have fallen in love with them. At first there was only LUTS and Volks but I have then discovered Iplehouse and their sculpts are absolutely beautiful.
And then I caved and bought one, after so many years.
If anyone is interested in my choice, it's an Iplehouse JID Boris; this means he's about 46cm tall and absolutely gorgeous.
I have him on layaway which means I won't be getting him until I fully pay for him, and even then it'll take a while for it to ship. I'm already worried about the taxes, haha. But here's the thing: I want to name him after one of my OCs. Boris is obviously a male doll, and the pool of OCs I am willing to actually put to life in doll form is the kids from the Faolain orphanage. Meaning, a lot of D&D-based characters.
Now, there are five Faolain kids. From eldest to youngest, it's: Aari, Frey, Rin, Ea and Mei. Aari and Mei are female, so they're both out (in choosing my IH Boris's identity). My choice, of course, would gravitate towards Rin.
Rin is my darling. He's this chaotic little bastard magething with no care at all about friends or foe and does things because he wants to. He's selfishly driven and only really cares about himself, his hat, dragons and fire. He's a little crazy, if you think about it too. He's also tiny, which is just fine for the MSD/JID/ 1/4scale BJD, but-- I don't think Boris fits him.
Then I went to Frey. Frey is my sort of delicate flower. He's a bard with a voice that could make women swoon but he only has eyes for men. He's also a bit of a pervert once you get to know him a little bit better, and he can be a bit lazy. It could fit him, I guess, but Boris's head sculpt is too manly for what I had in mind for Frey.
Ea, on the other hand, is the headstrong responsible kid who is a little insecure and keeps to himselef most of the time. He's a skilled hunter, and is pretty much a mary sue (until you throw him in a room with Rin and Frey and then he goes insane and starts hacking the furniture into tiny pieces--). He'd... be perfect for Boris, except for the part where Ea is slightly tanned from spending too much time outdoors, hunting animals.
I... also kind of considered another OC, someone outside the Faolain kids: Prynn Russet deSoleil. He's a rich pompous brat with a flirty, playful side who gets away with trouble. The thing is, I don't have sole ownership of Prynn. He was created between myself and a good friend waaaaaaay back in my deviantArt years (yes, it was that long ago) after misspelling "pr0n" with "pr9n". I guess I could ask Dan if I could use him, but I... really want the Faolain kids.
SO. There you have it. Rika, ranting about OCs and a very silly doll problem. I'll probably get to decide when I have Boris at home, haha. Who knows, it might not even be any of those four. Still, I want the Faolain kids. I might just have to start saving up for five (more???) dolls for them. Herp.
